Denia Wealthy and prosperous town, famous for its many Fiestas

Denia is a wealthy and prosperous town, set against the backdrop of orange and lemon groves. Whilst the Mediterranean breeze showers Denia in an aura of perfume, you enjoy coffee at one of the many street café bars. Denia is adorned with limed treed avenues giving shade in the heat of the day

Denia was one of the main reasons Running Holidays came to this part of Spain. Denia has a class only found in larger cities such as Valencia, with its art and culture.

Denia with its lime tree-lined avenues and café culture, it is not hard to see why Denia attracts Spaniards from Valencia and Madrid. Its port has made Denia a very wealthy and prosperous town, evident through the buildings and their architecture, the fabulous shops, hotels and restaurants.

Denia has more festivals than any other town in Spain – and perhaps in the world. You could wonder how any work is done at all!

Calpe Denia, Ideal for runners and cyclists!

There are many races in and around Denia throughout the year, coinciding with the many fiestas. The area is very flat and so perfect for both running and cycling.

The runs range from 7km to 12km – the three runs just before Christmas are 8km, 10km and 1 mile. Running Holidays have always entered runners in these events. Because many of these runs take place in summer, these are generally of a shorter distance – only 5k or 10k – and many are run in the evening.

The runs are very much a family event, with every father coaching their child. These races, organised by the local Town Hall, attract beginners, running clubs and schools. Surprisingly, there is a lack of women runners – there are a few younger runners but they must all stop when they reach 24 years old. And there is always the family man pushing a pram with paternal pride!

In the summer, you could take a day trip to Ibiza from Denia, via ferry from the Port.

Denia is a Port town, with plenty of water sports, including wind surfing and kite surfing. The area is very sheltered so the waves are not large.

Calpe Denia, with its spectacular castle and mountains

The spectacular castle, is well worth a visit. The backdrop is Montgo, one of the largest mountains in the area. The mountain is ideal for walkers because the route is well established and sign posted through the Montgo National Park. The Montgo climb is a must – you may even see an eagle on the way.

We highly recommend you take the time to visit Denia, which compares with Chester and Bath for its buildings and architectural history.
